Natasha cries, convenes a meeting after nomination

Listen to this article

After Biggie announced the people nominated for possible eviction, Natasha went to her bed and started crying, wondering why she was always being nominated.

Her compatriot Fatima consoled Natasha  although she felt hated by fellow housemates.

“How could they pick me again, is it because I am competition?”she replied to Fatima who was trying to calm her down.

“I’m the most hated housemate. Clearly everyone thinks I’m a bad person. Are they threatened by me because I cook and clean? Do you know how it feels to be nominated every week?” she wondered.

Fatima tried to pacify her and reminded her that it was only a game. “You can’t control anything that happens in this house. It’s only a game,” Fatima said.

She asked Natasha to be strong citing that if she has been able to get through the past weeks possibilities of eviction, then she ought to be strong because she will possibly survive this one too.

However,Natasha continued ranting about her nomination saying she hoped that if she survives this week’s eviction, the housemates would exempt her from this undesirable fate.

After shedding tears and getting to talk through it with fellow housemates Fatima and Botswana’s Oneal, she walked out of the house but did not get over it.

On entry into her room she had a long conversation with Zambia’s Cleo. The Zambian had nothing to say apart from listening to Natasha as she went on explaining her situation.

“The times I have been nominated have helped me understand the game”, she said. “But just yesterday (Sunday) I was standing up, but do I have to do it every week.”

She went on narrating what she has learnt in the game so far “It is not about what you are doing wrong, but it’s about what you do right that positions you as a threat, as competition,” she said.

However, as the Ruby-mates were retiring to bed, Natasha decided to tackle the issue head-on.

She waited till all the housemates were in their beds and then took the podium.

“I want to talk about you guys constantly nominating me. I know you guys don’t think I’m a bad person but you must understand how I feel. I’m not saying I’m special and don’t deserve to be nominated. However, it’s really disheartening when I’m the only one who has been nominated every week,” reports the Big Brother website.

Her fellow housemates looked taken aback by Natasha’s bold move.

emo E’face’s latest album has earned him a coveted nomination for US music honours.

The Blantyre-born pop star (born Amos Mazinyane) confirmed in an interview from his Johannesburg base in South Africa that Close was in the run for the Best Pop Artist shield in the Hollywood Artist Music Awards.

“After my album Close was reproduced by Serratus [formerly Restraint Records], who are based in the UK and Mexico, the executive producer Daniel Kain aka Dagger Kain submitted it for consideration in the Hollywood Artist Music Awards,” said E’face.

A result of five months of hard work and networking, Close was initially produced by Baseline Sonye in 2011. However, it was redone after E’face signed a collaborative deal with Kain in October 2012. The label is charged to market the release worldwide.

“This is the beginning of Aemo E’face world dominance,” Daniel Kain posted on Twitter last week.

The transatlantic awards boast red-carpet events, including stage performances. The winners stand a chance to get their names recorded in US most popular film culture as well as vying for Grammy Awards.

The nod comes prior to a tour with Hollywood rookie Orisha Pelzer, who is in Jamaica promoting Embrace It, a new single featuring Sizzla. She will be in South Africa to record a joint album with E’face.

The project was scheduled for early this year, but was postponed after both of them changed management labels.

Their ties have reportedly landed E’face a chance to collaborate with international dancehall ace Beenie Man.

E’face said: “Because of strong relations with Orisha, she introduced me to Beenie Man’s Management. We have a deal set in place for a collabo which is being produced by Sheldon, the Jamaican icon who also produced Embrace It.

He said Close, which contains pop hits Just Wanna Make It, House Down and Bum Bum as well as love remixes You Got Me and Second to Breathe, will be followed by the summer release of a new album featuring Orisha Sound. She is expected in South Africa in August for the studio work.

While US residents can vote their favourite Hollywood nominees via SMS codes, Malawians and the rest of the continent are advised to follow @aemoeface on Twitter for links on how to poll for E’face.

The judging panel will give 50 percent to the winner as the remaining score will emanate from the fans. n

Gospel artist Mau K on Sunday launched his debut, Ukhale Okonzeka, with several gospel artists spicing up the affair at the Comesa Hall in Blantyre.

With such artists as Lawi performing live for the first time in the commercial city, it was a rare treat as rising artists came face to face with experienced singers to welcome the 12-track album.

Taking centre stage after performances by Ethel Kamwendo-Banda, Faith Mussa, St Pius Roman Catholic Church Choir, Allan Chirwa and Patience Namadingo, Mau K, real name Maulidi Kumbalika, took patrons through songs in his debut: Alleluya, Ukhale Tcheru and Amen, before paving the way for the auction of the album.

Later, another Lilongwe artist, Good Friday, took to the stage.

So received was Mau K that when he came back on stage to perform Ndidzabweza Chiyani, Mbusa Wabwino and Marching Over, things were hot, that some patrons could not help but carry the artist shoulder high.

It was so engrossing, that some ignored the absence of Zambian gospel act, Beauty Kalua, who according to Mau K was caught up in travel document hussles. Kalua, and South Africa-based Virginia Fologonya were tipped to perform, but only Fologonya made it for the do.

“Our eyes are now on Lilongwe. We are happy with the turn out. Right now, I am also shooting music videos for the DVD,” said Mau K.

The show was organised by 5 Star Entertainment and the outfit’s Raymond Sekeni said they exist to bring a difference on the Malawi music scene.

“We are happy it is done. Mau K is one artist lovers of gospel music cannot choose to ignore,” said Sekeni.

Ukhale Tcheru was recorded at D Shon Records in Blantyre. n

Musicians

happy with

Mhango’s

decision

Musicians Association of Malawi (MAM) and some musicians in the country have welcomed Chimwemwe Mhango’s decision to join politics saying it gives them the final hope to hear the voice of musicians in Parliament.

Speaking in an interview on Monday some of the musicians said the growth and recognition of Malawi music has been a challenge because Parliament does not recognise the hurdles of being a musician.

Roy Harawa manager of Black Missionaries Band said he would support Mhango’s journey to politics and during his time as Member of Parliament (MP).

“Mhango has displayed good leadership skills both as MAM president and pastor and I know with these traits he will do better in Parliament. He has the passion to serve people. I believe his presence in Parliament will help the august House to listen to challenges of being a musician,” he said.

MAM women’s desk president Martha Mituka said her office has welcomed the decision.

“We have not got the real voice of a Malawian musician in Parliament. This has kept us struggling. Mhango has been a president for MAM, he has travelled to various places across the world and he knows in real terms the challenges of Malawian music and what should be done.

As MAM we believe his presence in Parliament will bring glory to the music industry,” said Mituka.

Mhango said he is planning to join politics and contest as an MP for Mzimba Solora. n

Biggie warns on mother tongue use

H

ousemates who speak in mother tongue might see their stay in the Big Brother Africa house being terminated, Biggie has warned.

Biggie was unimpressed with some of the Rubies not adhering to basic house rules that were explained from the beginning of The Chase. One of the rules that the housemates have been blatantly ignoring is the use of vernacular or mother tongue in the house.

Ghanaians Elikem and Selly , and Namibians Dillish and Maria, are few of the housemates who have been spotted exchanging words in their mother tongue.

This was followed by Malawian housemates Natasha and Fatima who discussed the eviction on Sunday in Chichewa.

Ndinakuuza kuti ndi mzanga koma anandipangabe nominate. Mwina chifukwa choti ndinacheza ndi mnyamata uja [I told you she is my friend but she decided to nominate me maybe because of the guy],” said Natasha of her nomination to Fatima.

Her compatriot was quick to reply in Chichewa and English maybe to avoid Big Brother’s wrath.

Natasha almost committed the same crime Monday night after being told about the evictions when she ran upstairs to cry. Fatima followed to console her and immediately she told Natasha that “I would have spoken in Chichewa.”

The speaking of mother tongue has brought great unrest and unhappiness in the house because some housemates feel that there are things being said by their fellow housemates who have intentions of conspiring against others thus causing separation in the house.

Biggie told all housemates during their Diary sessions that he has been telling all of them to speak English in the house at all times and his instructions have been constantly ignored. For this, he intends to penalise the next housemates to speak in their home language, the punishment will be extreme or the housemate will be disqualified.

People commenting on the Big Brother website felt that Biggie was being unfair.

“If Delish and Maria, Fatima and Natasha speaks their dialect no dust was raised, I see no problem in Elikem and Selly speaking……. POKELLO should just play the game and ignore the “SPECTATORS”, reads one follower.

“True yesterday after the eviction show. Natasha and Fatima was talking their native language in the bed room. But no comment from the BB. This is not fair,” reads another comment.

“Natasha and Fatima did it….. no problem there. Dillish and Maria did it…. also ignored

Selly and Elikem do it and they are disgusting and blah blah blah…… I see what’s going on here………. y’all are just funny…. it’s just a game,” reads another comment.
